The world cup is being hosted in the country of South Africa.  The thing is…this $137 million is a waste of money.  Oh yea… how bout’ they take a look at the main portion of the population of their  country!

In 2009 it was estimated that 5.7 million people are living and coping with HIV & AIDS.  In a 2008 statistic the number of people who died of HIV and AIDS was around 250,000

(and this was updated on March 28 2010) the number of people living on less than $2 a day is 660 million! And the number of people that are living on less than $1 per day is 385 million!  If you doubt what I am saying then go to this site.  http://www.globalissues.org/article/26/poverty-facts-and-stats.

The people of Iran are not all for nuclear weapons or things like that. Some are just wanting peace and freedom. Most people desire freedom but the government obviously does not.

For a long time Iran has been shut off from the rest of the world, but not now. The Internet has linked the citizens of Iran to America and other countries.  It has also created new ideas of freedom and justice.

The internet has changed people’s view of Iran’s citizens.  Although the people are and have been fighting for their rights the regime has relentlessly ruled.  I think that something must be done to free these people.

The government has recently passed a new bill that is “giving health care for all”.  This health care bill will leave around 8 million people without health care.  Some people probably look at the other 32 million people.  Others say that we may not have enough money for the last 8 million.  But still what will happen to them.

The good side is it could possibly save some lives.  It could also keep some people away from debt or worse.  there are many good sides for those 32 million that do get health care.  But there are also quite a few bad sides for the country.

Some of the bad sides are mabye…increasing the debt of our country.  If  When this bill fails it just might send the U.S. spiraling down into economic destruction, we will be up a creek without a paddle.  The health care bill has a lot of good things about it, but it just might bring us to economic ruin.

Two earthquakes recently hit.  One devastated the humans, and one affected the world.  The first hit Haiti. The second hit Chile.

Earthquakes are all dangerous, but one in a country that is not very stable is just plain terrible. Haiti is one of those unstable countries.  Many a tragically huge number of people died in Haiti’s earthquake.

Now the Chile earthquake was so powerful that the world’s tilt was affected.  This tilt change may have shortened the days by 1.26 microseconds.  This change is very small but it may affect the plants of this world… mabye. Only time will tell… Oh cool, I made a pun!

Saturdays With Hugo

March 12, 2010

Hugo Chávez has nationalized things things that bring in lots of money like the oil industry.  He is also nationalizing cement, communications, electricity, and steel companies.  I have no clue why he is doing it.  I just think that he is…a little…nutty.

It seems like he is just trying to get money.  I mean he says that he is helping toe poor, but poverty is still a big problem.  Nutty or not he is still corrupt.

Is Venezuela on its way to socialism?  Maybe, maybe not, but it sure seems like it.  I’m just glad I don’t live there.

Just because an idiot tried to get onto a plane with a bomb by his butt, doesn’t mean we need people behind a wall looking at our private parts!  I know that we need safety in airports and all… but still it’s getting a little bit invasive.  These scanners are little extreme.

I know that the sensitivity of these scanners can be adjusted, but I cannot help saying that these scanners invade our privacy.  These scanners can save lives, but still people will not want to be shown on a computer screen almost completely naked!

I strongly believe these new scanners contradict the rights given to us.  I do not want to go through one of these scanners.  They are completely wrong!

Haiti is trying desperately to recover from the 7.0 earthquake that destroyed homes and lives.  Haiti really needs cannot go on without help.  The people of Haiti are just messed up.

Once this earthquake hit houses collapsed, about 150,000 people died, and it left roughly 1 million homeless.  Makeshift houses are being constructed, and food and supplies are being sent. All that is happening, but people are still dying.

When there is a disaster or something like that people go to where there is help.  But when supplies get low and the demand gets higher, then people fight over things like food and water.  We eat and drink all we want, then we waste what we don’t want.  we definitely need to change.

Is corn making us obese?  Maybe it is.  Researchers have found that cows fed mostly corn become obese then when the meat gets to our burgers, it makes us fat too.  That is because the meat is mostly fat with a little meat thrown in.

There are roughly 45,000 items made from corn, from the food we eat to weed control products, from some of the very medicines we take to spark plugs that make our cars go!  But what I am concerned about is how corn is used in mostly every food item we eat.  This is how corn can make us obese.  It makes so many things that you see in the food isles at Wal-Mart. You might not know it, but corn is making us fat.  Its products like high fructose corn syrup might be tasty, but that soda you’re drinkin’ might just (over time) add to your weight.

Obesity is a serious problem.  It can lead to conditions like type 2 diabetes. So… to sum it all up, corn may make us obese.

Afghanistan

If you say we should nuke them all then I think you should see a doctor.  And you should also rethink your life. I say that mostly because people should not be that violent.

If you think we should avoid killing innocents I believe that you are a moderate person. Because you aren’t way off to one side.  You aren’t wanting to kill us all or wanting someone else to do that for you.

If you think that we should just leave them alone then I dont really understand you.  I sort-of understand that you don’t wand to kill anyone who didn’t do anything to us.

I believe that we should try not to kill innocents.  we should not just kill them all, but we should kill terrorists.  but the problem is that terrorism is an idea and you cannot kill one of those… except by mind control.  But we dont have mind control yet so we are stuck with the wars and conflicts we have now.

Olympic Veterans Come Again

January 29, 2010

Happy to be back, Shaun White is going to be on the U.S. Olympic snowboarding team.  Shaun is a very skilled snowboarder. He has won many awards and is hoping to get more.

Lindsey Vonn has yet to win anything, but still she is trying.  She came home without any medals, but at least she put forth effort.  Just because you don’t win doesn’t mean you should stop trying.

Julie Chu is a great hockey player.  Even though she had to settle for bronze last time, she’s back.  I hope they all win in the upcoming 2010 olympics!
